The Center for Cognitive Coaching

Mission

The mission of the Center for Cognitive Coaching is to expand the influence of Cognitive CoachingSM by building capacity in systems.

Strategic Goals

The Center for Cognitive Coaching has established four strategic goals which will drive our decisions and actions for the next five years:

  • Supportive products and services that utilize current technology
  • Increased cultural diversity among trainers
  • Models of sustained Cognitive CoachingSM in systems
  • Research on the impact of Cognitive CoachingSM in systems

Core Values

The following three values are offered as the foundational beliefs and guiding principles of the Center for Cognitive Coaching.

Doing Our Work

1. Humility in Continuous Learning

Life's encounters, events, and circumstances become invitations to improve ourselves when we have humility in continuous learning. While it is human to defend our biases, beliefs, actions and knowledge, it is also human to transcend the instinct to protect ourselves with the courage to learn and change.

2. Self As Service

Our ego needs are set aside in the pursuit of service to others. We devote our energies to enhancing their resourcefulness. We serve to capacitate and derive satisfaction when others excel and are recognized.

Through Our Work

3. Human Potential

We dedicate ourselves to maximizing human potential. We are committed to amplifying five states of mind as resources to realize cognitive modifiability, and transformation of individuals and organizations. Efficaciously we strive to bring our own and other's consciousness to intentions, thoughts, feelings, behaviors and their effects on others and the environment.
—Arthur Costa and Robert Garmston, Co-Developers of Cognitive CoachingSM, February 1999

Proposed Public Agreements

A Public Agreement is a route to nurturing a direct experience of organizational integrity.
—Robert Kegan

These public agreements define our ways of working together. Our work is to live the mission of the Center for Cognitive Coaching to expand the influence of Cognitive CoachingSM by building capacity in systems. By acting on these agreements, our organization is one of trust, collective efficacy, and shared consciousness.

  • We commit to growing Cognitive CoachingSM with integrity to the model developed by Art Costa and Robert Garmston.
  • We honor the processes and guidelines established by the Center for Cognitive Coaching and commit to utilizing them to provide rich learning experiences for our stakeholders.
  • We honor the expertise that each person brings to the community and act honestly and respectfully toward one another.
  • We act from our identity as mediators of thinking in all of our interactions.
  • We commit to reflecting and working to develop ourselves and others.
