Kathryn (Harwell) Kee served for eight years as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD and twelve years as Director of Staff Development in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD before retiring in May of 2002, with 32 years in education. Kathy is recognized for her energetic, effective, and innovative approaches to teaching and leading which have brought her many leadership honors as both a teacher and administrator. The greatest honors include serving as the first President and Executive Director of the Texas Staff Development Council, the organization that selected her as 1993 Outstanding Staff Developer in Texas; and serving as national chairperson for the National Staff Development Council Conference held in Dallas in December of 1993 and serving as Board Member and President of the National Staff Development Council from 1994-1999.
In her "retirement" Kathy is a founding member of Coaching for Results, an organization committed to coaching school leaders to achieving the highest levels of leadership results in teaching and learning. In addition, she is a Leadership Coach to Middle School Principals in Houston and Dallas for the Galef Institute, a Comprehensive School Reform model which integrates best practice and the arts while teaching standards through big ideas and guiding questions. Adding to the exhilaration of retirement, she has returned to Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD to develop electronic learning staff development sessions that will provide anytime, anywhere learning for teachers. To round out her "retirement," she trains nationally in Carolyn Downey's "Walk Through for Reflective Practice," and Bob Garmston's Cognitive Coaching, and Adaptive Schools. Every single day provides efficacy and joy for our work!
Her philosophy is based on her commitment to dignify and empower people by teaching the skills of self-evaluation and reflection and a steadfast belief that quality focused staff development is the secret ingredient for every success in education.
