Group Energy Sources

Last week we introduced you to the concept of the States of Mind as energy sources in groups. We have developed a survey that groups can use to assess their own Energy Sources. There are 12 questions for each of the Energy Sources: efficacy, flexibility, consciousness, craftsmanship, and interdependence. It is a useful tool for gathering baseline data. After each member completes the survey, a score is given for each Energy Source. Group members can compare their results. Item analysis is very useful for examining patterns and differences. Many groups have then used this data to set goals for future work.

Here are a few sample questions. Each one is scored on a Likert Scale from Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree.

Consciousness: We are aware of where we are in our development as a team and where we want to be as a team.

Efficacy: Our team has control over what happens to us.

Flexibility: We examine the positive intentions of others' behaviors.

Craftsmanship: We accomplish less than we hope to in most of our meetings and are often frustrated by lack of closure.

Interdependence: Some members of our team are clearly more important than others.

If you are interested in ordering the complete survey, visit the Cognitive CoachingSM Products page and order the Energy Sources Team Self Assessment Survey. Please let us know of the successes you have in using this survey by writing to Carolee Hayes.
